Luis Cañas Crianza it is a red wine from the D.O. La Rioja produced by Bodegas Luis Cañas in Villabuena , Alava. Producer who began in 1970 to bottle and market his wines when many still sold them in bulk. In 1994, a new winery was opened, which has the most Moderna systems for the elaboration.
We have 350 hectares of vineyards, mostly on clay-calcareous soils, on 870 plots located in La Rioja Alavesa, an area with an excellent wine tradition. They use a rational viticulture in which they do not use any type of herbicide or synthetic fertilizers.
The climate of the Rioja Alavesa is a transition between the Atlantic climate and that of the Mediterranean, that is, the sierra de Cantabria acts as a protector of the arrival of the winds and squalls coming from the North and creates a dry climate but with high temperature oscillations that make it perfect for the cultivation of the vine and its optimal ripening.
This wine is made from the variety Tempranillo (95%) and a little bit of Grenache (5%) which gives it a slightly more fruity character. The grapes used for Luis Cañas Crianza come from vineyards that are on average 30 years old. This, after being harvested, ferments at a controlled temperature of 26º for 20 days.
Luis Cañas Crianza it ages for 12 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels and finally rests for another 9 months in the bottle.
